Dear Brian, It is really difficult to see these numbers. It is worse to understand that all the hundreds of volunteers who spent thousands of hours developing community zoning Plans for their neighbourhoods will be ignored. With one rushed Broadway Plan they are erasing decades of careful effort by citizens and City of Vancouver Staff. The gold rush is on!
Corny as it sounds, folks are saving copies of the policies and plans that are at risk from the Broadway and Vancouver Plans. If the election brings TEAM in with a majority, plans can be repealed, older plans can be brought back, neighbourhoods can be consulted again and the work you mention can be revisited and rejuvenated rather than just rejected.
Vancouver City Council and some of the development industry have joined forces to turn our city into a megatropolis of skyscrapers and SkyTrains, based on misinformation and empty promises of ‘affordable’ housing. Those who dare speak up are called NIMBYs and ignored.
In the next two months, Council will rush through the Vancouver Plan and Broadway Plans, which will irreparably harm our city’s liveability, affordability and beauty. Poor consultation means most residents have never heard of these plans; others have filled out slanted surveys guaranteed to give the City the answers it wants.
Unlimited towers but limited democracy—is this the future we want for our city?
Join us in a Rally at the north side of City Hall, Saturday May 7, 11 am to noon.
It’s time for residents, small businesses, neighbourhood associations, and community groups to unite and mobilize. Please join us in a visible demonstration of opposition to the City plans.
Details:
1. 11 am: Meet around the north entrance to City Hall, corner of Cambie and 12th
2. Bring a placard with the name of the neighbourhood you represent on it.
3. Bring your family and friends.
4. Hear from speakers – Architect Brian Palmquist; political commentator Bill Tieleman; and others.
This is happening organically, through involvement of various individuals and neighbourhood groups. I suggest you just copy/paste this into your social media:

Let's be honest here. The foundations at Granville and Broadway were put in to carry a 40 storey building many weeks ago. They knew. The fix was in. You don't do that unless you know you have the deal. It's corrupt. Your and the public's input is not relevant, it's a sham. Sad sad sad.
