That’s why so many of us are fighting so hard to prevent it from happening. And if it does, we will shift to a change of government in October and repeal the whole thing!
This plan has so many red flags and seems to pander to the global crisis of financializing our homes for profits. The minimum we should expect is that our government works toward curbing that not facilitating it. Also I am seriously worried about how many people that are pushing and working on this plan in the management department are not even from Vancouver and are not familiar with its heritage and history. Can we stop importing people from the States? They are not really a social model to look up to. They do not have a history of integration, but are more and more on the divisive and discriminatory spectrum. We do not need that kinds of segregation or discrimination imported through how we build and structure our cities.
I am speaker Number 106(!) but have also submitted written comments to the mayor and council:
"I am a Vancouver resident, living outside the area of the Broadway Plan, who believes its adoption will cause irrevocable destruction to the neighbourhoods it is inflicted on. I have no confidence whatsoever in reassurances that current renters need not live in a state of anxiety for the foreseeable future lest they lose their homes. These people, not those who might move here 20 years down the road, are your constituents.
I wish there were a means for city councillors to consider the views of Vancouver residents as of greater importance than those of non-residents in all decisions of this nature; sadly one resident's well-informed impassioned argument weighs equally in the statistical balance with a brief 'Support - we need more housing now!' from someone who doesn't live here."
Seriously, I think my remarks to Council (I am #5 and speaking in person) will touch on some of this, but bear reinforcement as we March through the speaker order. As always, my remarks will become a City Conversation, tentatively titled “Requiem for the Public Process.” Steve Bohus is up right after me, will dazzle and horrify with his images-he sent his last round to me at 1:37am yesterday!
Take care. COVID is alive and well among us. We have had more friends and colleagues sickened in the last two months than the previous two years.😳
I do not support this plan! I am paying a mortgage in a low rise condo in the Arbutus area. The number of people you are proposing to live here is appaling. The traffic is already horrific. I'll have to leave my beloved neighborhood should you go through with this as my once peaceful living space will be too stressful to continue living in. Wait until October to vote on this to see if you even have a mandate to make such life changing decisions for our beautiful city!
Diane, I’m hoping when you say “you” that refers to the city administration. We are on the same wavelength.
Not meaning to further disturb you, but Arbutus Walk is part of the Plan for future further densification. The 30 year time frame is cover for proposals to densify just about everywhere in the Plan area.
Are you planning to speak to Council on this? Or at least write them? In this instance, numbers count.
I absolutely hate the Broadway Plan. It will destroy our way of life and turn our beautiful City into another North American concrete jungle.

Thanks for reading 😎
I’m curious as to why the news media has not picked up on this covert contract made by the city.
My understanding of the purpose of the Broadway Subway was to reduce car volume and the 99 B-line to UBC.
Choose:
1. Media dependent on real estate advertising;
2. Planning staff only able to think high-rise;
3. Development industry only able to think high-rise;
4. All of the above

Sadly, I agree with you 100%😒

#106…you didn’t really want a summer vacation😒

I am appalled at the arrogance of these city councillors and city ‘planners’. I don’t like or dislike this plan. I loathe it.
Hang tough and work for change, is all we can do
